What is sclerotherapy?

We use sclerotherapy in Lancaster to reduce the appearance of our patients’ vascular blemishes, spider veins, and broken blood vessels. The sclerosing agent causes irritation and inflammation inside the vein, leading it to gradually clot, close, and disappear. We use the brand Asclera as our sclerosing agent, which the FDA approved in 2010. Asclera causes undesired spider veins to shut with no more than a prick of an injection needle.

What veins can sclerotherapy address?

Sclerotherapy can address the following types of veins: Varicose veins: These are large blue or dark purple veins that protrude from the skin—typically on the legs. Often, they have a cord-like appearance and may twist or bulge. Spider veins: These small veins, which can be red or blue, sit closer to the surface of the skin compared to varicose veins. They can look like thin lines, tree branches, or webs. Spider veins can appear on the legs and face and may cover a small or large area. Reticular veins : Also called feeder veins, these are the blue and green veins that sit just beneath the surface of the skin. Reticular veins sometimes swell because of increased pressure in the vein. This is often a hereditary condition.

Can spider veins be prevented?

Although spider veins are not always preventable after your session of sclerotherapy in Lancaster, there are things you can do to reduce your chances of developing them: Wear sunscreen Get regular exercise Do not sit or stand for long stretches of time Shift your weight from one leg to another while standing Take breaks to walk if you sit for long periods of time Wear support stockings

Our Process

Step 1

Consultation

During your consultation, our nurse practitioners will examine the veins you would like to address. We’ll discuss how sclerotherapy in Lancaster can reduce the appearance of these veins so you can regain confidence in your skin.
Step 2

Treatment

Treatment is simple: once you’re comfortable, your nurse practitioner injects the sclerosing agent into your targeted veins. Apart from the prick of the needle, this is painless.
Step 3

Results

After your session, we apply compression with a stocking or bandage and have you walk for 15 to 20 minutes to promote circulation. You can expect your unwanted veins to collapse and dissolve over the next few months.
