MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS OHIO

There is a reason why we don’t have to advertise our Medical Weight Loss system. Our clients come in and finally get answers as to why they cannot lose weight or keep it off. And it has NOTHING to do with will power, laziness, or eating less and moving more.

Our owner Lindsay actually lectures on this very topic...

Here’s a link to her slides from a presentation at the Ohio Association of Advanced Nurse Practitioners (OAAPN) conference: CLICK HERE TO VIEW

In this lecture, Lindsay taught fellow Ohio Nurse Practitioners about how to treat patients that struggle with their weight- which accounts for approximately three-quarters of the American population, yet less than 4 percent of these patients seek medical care for their weight. And that is not surprising seeing as how they are basically told that their ‘bloodwork is normal’ (which means it’s all in their head) and told to ‘just diet and exercise’ (which means they’re lazy). At Medical Spa NP, we get to the CAUSE of weight gain and the inability to lose weight, and we reassure our patients that they are NOT LAZY or CRAZY.

A few MYTHS regarding weight loss include:

  •  Just eat less and move more. Nope. That is not how weight loss works.
  •  Don’t eat after 6pm. Also hokum.
  • Dieting is the key to losing weight.
At MSNP, our philosophy is “If it is not something you can do the rest of your life,
it is a waste of time and money.”
There are actually only a couple health conditions
in which we need to put our clients on a temporary diet, but those are rare.
Rather than diets, we investigate the source of the weight gain and treat that
so our clients no longer have to self medicate with food.

Furthermore, MSNP vehemently opposes the word “morbid” when diagnosing a BMI over 40. This term is so judgmental and derogatory that we feel it should be abolished. Think about it, if a patient’s blood pressure is really high, do we diagnose them with “morbid” hypertension? NO! We are fighting every day to improve medical care given to those that struggle with their weight.

Traditional, insurance-based medicine is simply there for chronic disease management. The system is not setup to look at the source of anything. Outside of emergency medicine, insurance one hundred percent dictates healthcare. Insurance determines what prescriptions can be written, what labs can be ordered, and what imaging will be covered, to name a few. To be clear, the healthcare providers that are insurance-based are constrained in a broken system. MSNP feels these providers are doing the best they can in a broken system.

At MSNP, we structure our treatments around EVIDENCE... never Insurance. We LISTEN to our patients and PATNER with them in their path towards health and wellness.

At the end of the day, MSNP believes we are simply better humans when we like the way we look and feel, so our goal at MSNP is to help our patients live their best lives.

“Prescribing Prozac for fatigue and weight gain is like putting a sticker over the check engine light. At Medical Spa NP, we look under the hood and treat the source, not the symptoms.”

WHAT TO EXPECT

The initial visit for weight loss is 45 minutes with our seasoned Nurse Practitioners and includes drawing blood work and discussing your symptoms and an extensive review of your past medical history. If prescription medical weight loss is an option and appropriate, we typically can initiate that treatment this first visit. The bloodwork we draw goes through Labcorp. You can either cash pay for the labs and you will not receive a bill from Labcorp, or you can run your labs through insurance and get a bill from Labcorp.

None of the initial labs we check are overtly expensive, but MSNP has absolutely no control over, or association with, the billing at Labcorp. We send them the appropriate diagnoses, but Labcorp decides how much to charge and we have found absolutely no consistency of these charges over the past several years. We have the cash prices listed for you to decide which path you are wanting to choose.

Please note, if you get a large bill from Labcorp, we will try to advocate and amend diagnoses, but there isn’t a lot we can do.

This first visit also includes a follow-up visit approx. 7-10 days later when we have your labs resulted. In the lab follow-up visit, we discuss your results and pair them with your symptoms. We
stress that the listed reference ranges for what is normal lab values are not exactly consistent with optimal values, so we do not always pay attention to what labs are bold. In this visit, we are typically able to put numbers to symptoms and discuss treatments that are available.
